Together, not Torn

March 8, 2010 1 comment

It’s happenings like this that restore my faith that there are still people calling themselves Christians who have not forgotten the command in Leviticus 25 to:

If one of your countrymen becomes poor and is unable to support himself among you, help him as you would an alien or a temporary resident, so he can continue to live among you. [emphasis added]

Check out Together, no Torn: Families Can’t Wait for Immigration Reform. There are several ways to get involved.

The latest installment in the Non-Happy Endings project, the poem “mi ciudad pide clemencia”

In a fitting complement to the poem, I want to also share a recent article “Hopeless in Juarez” by Monica Ortiz Uribe covering the current situation in Juarez, Mexico.

Unheard Voices Premier in Detroit

February 7, 2010 Leave a comment
The UDM Theatre Company is proud to announce a special benefit production of Unheard Voices. Unheard Voices, conceived and directed by retiring faculty member Yolanda Fleischer and written by the UDM Theatre Community, is a play that will address the issues and problems of the overwhelming epidemic of homelessness in Southeast Michigan.
The stories behind people experiencing homelessness are as varied and surprising as the population. Our goal is to present the voices, lives, visions, hopes, dreams, pains and spirits of the local homeless community on stage for the audience to recognize and acknowledge through financial support.
All proceeds and donations raised will go to the Homeless Action Network of Detroit (H.A.N.D.), whose help has made this program possible.
